Rec National Update Regarding Weather

I know everyone wants an answer in regards to this weekends events.  We are not planning any activities for Friday night and the tournament would start Saturday morning at 8am.  Currently nothing has changed in regards to having this event.  We are working closely with the City of Myrtle Beach to monitor the Weather Updates that we are being given by the National Weather Service.  They have not pulled the plug on us yet so we havent either.  No one can 100% tell us what this storm will do or what its really going to bring us in any part of the Southeastern United States as we sit currently today.  These are all computer based guesses.  With that being said we understand as time goes by the forecast could get worse or it could get better for MYRTLE BEACH.  I say this because thats what we are focused on is the weather in Myrtle Beach where the event is.  Just like the teams we (Freedom Staff) all have families, we are all traveling several hours, we all have hotel rooms with cancelation policies.  At the end of the day we as ADULTS must make whatever decision is best for us.  I can't make this decision this weekend based on any one teams situation.  I understand everyones concerns and i respect them, but my decision will be based on the weather in myrtle beach and what the staff of Freedom and the City of Myrtle Beach come up with.  I hope this doesnt offend anyone and please dont take it personal.  Everyone will have a different opinion on how this should be handled as i have heard them all:

They are all about the dollar
They dont care about anyone but themselves
This is stupid
Play next weekend
Its just rain lets go
Turf fields can hold up to anything

Good and bad we have heard them all and i assure you we understand.  This will be the official place you can get the most updated tournament info and our goal will be to have a 100% answer by 5pm today at the latest.  With that being said the answer as of 12pm today is:

This tournament is still on

Players please do not text me individually asking for updates as i will not respond back.  There is way too much going on today for me to handle 250 different peoples questions.  I will do all of my updates on this message board.  If you want your answer on an update please come here.  I will also contact each coach by 5pm today if anything has changed.

Myrtle Beach is currently looking at rainfall totals and potential wind gusts as the Hurricane is projected to not come on shore anywhere near myrtle beach but could cause these things as it passes to our east.

Thank you again and please bare with us as we are working to provide answers to all your concerns as the day goes on.  The fact that the fields can take as much rain as you give them because they are turf is making this decision a very hard one for all of us so we must look at other things.

Of course if these fields were natural grass this would be a no brainer and it would have been cancelled days ago.

More to come and thank you for everyones understanding on these very difficult decisions in advance.

Re: Rec National Update Regarding Weather

Well teams as promised here is your update:

I just got off the phone with the City of Myrtle Beach.  After much waiting,  watching and discussion they have decided to cancel all area events this weekend.

This will be our first ever event to cancel there.  If the tournament was already started and we hit this rain I think it would be a different story but having not begun yet they feel it best not to subject the non turf portions of the field to that amount of rain from the start to finish.

Either way I respect their decision and we will and must cancel. I'm sure this message will be received with mixed emotions.  I know some very much wanted to play while others didn't.

With that being said we are planning to reschedule this event for next weekend but it won't be in Myrtle Beach. There are a handful of possible locations and we will work over the next couple days to see which one will best fit our needs.

I will contact every COACH with this same information to discuss the options.

Thank you again and have a safe dry weekend.
